Solar carports: twice the use of space, twice the benefit
A solar carport (or PV canopy) is a free-standing structure with solar modules integrated into its roof: it shelters cars, vehicles and outdoor areas from the weather while producing renewable energy.
It is the ideal solution when the roof is unsuitable or when you want to make the most of an existing car park, turning it into a genuine distributed solar power plant. The energy produced covers the company’s own consumption, charges electric vehicles or is shared on the grid and within Renewable Energy Communities (RECs).
How a solar carport works
The steel structure is installed above the parking bays and the solar modules are mounted on its roof, generating energy while creating a shaded area. The plant is sized to the available space — on average each parking space covers 15–20 m² and hosts 1.5 to 3 kWp — and can be integrated with EV chargers, battery storage (BESS) and connection to the grid or a REC. Single- or double-pitch configurations are available, with closed or “open” roofs (letting light filter between the modules) and bifacial glass-glass modules to maximise yield.
Types of solar carports
Every project is custom-designed around the available space, orientation and energy goals. The four most popular configurations are

Single pitch
A single sloping roof for maximum yield on linear car parks and single rows of bays.

Double pitch
A two-pitch structure for double-row car parks: more covered spaces and balanced production across two orientations.

Wall-mounted
Sits alongside or against the building without drilling the roof: zero risk of leaks.

Open roof / bifacial
Spaced modules acting as sunshades, or bifacial glass-glass panels that also capture reflected light.
Main components
A complete system, designed and integrated by Noon in every part
Free-standing structure
Hot-dip galvanised steel to Italian NTC18 standards: resistant to wind, snow and earthquakes.
High-efficiency modules
High-power monocrystalline or bifacial glass-glass modules, maximum yield per m².
Inverters and monitoring
Latest-generation inverters with remote and app control.
EV charging (optional)
Solar-powered wallboxes and charging points for fleets, customers and employees.
Storage and connection
BESS-ready, with grid connection or sharing within a REC.
Solutions for every setting
Custom design and full management of permits and paperwork for companies, public bodies and energy communities.
Companies and industry
Cover employee and visitor parking, power fleet charging and maximise self-consumption at your facilities.
Retail, hospitality and logistics
Shopping centres, hotels and logistics hubs: an architectural upgrade for the car park and new charging hubs for customers.
Public sector and Energy Communities
Public car parks, schools and hospitals: locally produced energy shared within the area’s REC.

FAQ
Can I install a carport if I don't have a suitable roof?
Yes. A solar carport is the ideal solution precisely when the roof is unavailable, unsuitable or too small: it uses the car park space without touching the building, also eliminating any risk of leaks.
Do I need a permit to install a solar carport?
It depends on the size of the structure and the municipality where it is installed. Noon handles the entire authorisation process (building permits, GSE paperwork and connection to the Enel grid), so you don’t have to deal with the red tape.
Can I add EV chargers and storage?
Yes. The carport can be prepared for wallboxes and charging points powered by the energy produced, and for BESS storage systems that make the plant even more self-sufficient.
What incentives are available for businesses?
Italian businesses can access various incentives (for example Transizione 5.0 and tax credits; Parco Agrisolare for the agricultural sector), as well as net metering or dedicated feed-in schemes. Conditions change over time: during the feasibility study we check together which ones apply to your project.
